When Akio and his mother move across the country to live with a mysterious acquaintance of his dead father, it's an adjustment. When they learn that the man's wife is dead and his son hasn't left the house in years, it's a shock. When the son starts letting Akio in on the rest of the family's secrets, things really start to get weird. It's going to be a long winter.
Overly Nitpicky Historical Note: I was a little unsure about the wording in the first speech bubble...The "war" would be referring to WWI, which officially ended right before the events of this comic begin, but there was a lot of other military activity (such as Japan's various imperialist actions in Asia) in that general time period that might be more natural for him to reference? But it's kind of an insubstantial thing to get hung up on when I'm sure there are many more dramatic inaccuracies going on in this story haha. orz;;;
