Flashback time!

K-cho October 20th, 2011, 5:34 pm

Ohhh my gosh, sorry for taking so long!! This page (and this scene in general) gave me all sorts of problems. orz;;;

This is something a little different from what's been going on so far, but stick around and we'll see how it ties in...:)

Thank you as always to everyone who gives this comic a look, it's good to finally kick off Chapter Two for real!

A Little Historical Background

K-cho October 20th, 2011, 5:51 pm

Note: If I am doing my job right, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ THIS in order to understand what goes on in this chapter! It's always my goal to have any necessary historical background incorporated into the comic as much as possible, and most of this information is not directly relevant to what happens to the characters in this chapter. But for the time being, if anyone is interested in getting some context for this scene right this minute, or if they're a history geek like me:

Japanese entered WWI on the side of the Entente (Britain, France, Russia, and later in the war the US, to name a few). Most of Japan's actions during the war were against Germany, specifically trying to take control of German-controlled parts of East Asia. (Largely because Japan wanted to control those areas itself.) The Siege of Tsingtao took place from October 31st to November 1st during 1914. The end result was that the German forces lost the port of Tsingtao (in Eastern China), which had previously been under their influence.

This site was my best friend in terms of reference pics for the uniforms, and also has some good information about Japan during WWI!

The flag in the first panel is the Rising Sun Flag.

(And as always in this comic, if you think I'm being horribly historically inaccurate somewhere, let me know!)

It's wonderful to see you updating again!
I'm definitely enjoying the historical information that you put into this comic. I'm learning new things along with being entertained (best combo, in my opinion).
Unfortunately, I don't know enough about this part of history to spot-check any errors. ^^;

I'm looking forward to where this flashback takes us! :D I always find it more interesting if the story doesn't take the reader immediately back to the main characters...

@Mavi: Aaah, hello Mavi! Glad to hear you're enjoying things so far, especially since this scene is kind of different from what's been going on so far. xD I'm sorry the updates are being so slow, but hopefully I can find a way to improve that soon! (Though you have perfect timing, I was juuust finishing the next page when I got the message that you had commented. xD) Thank you as always!
